A quadraphonic tape-piece using sounds generated by a Buchla 200-Series synthesizer. This composition resulted from the exploration of a single "patch", heard in its original form in the opening and closing gestures.

Program Note:
MEDFLIES (1982) is a quadraphonic tape-piece using sounds generated by a
Buchla 200-Series synthesizer. This composition resulted from the
exploration of a single "patch", heard in its original form in the opening
and closing gestures. These complexes resulted from the application of a
computer algorithm ("Shepherd's Tones" or the "musical barber pole") to
analog electronics. In quad playback, these descending complexes produce
stationary harmonic locks within the environment. The various episodes in
the middle of this piece were generated through simple modifications of the
control voltages associated with the descending structures and the time
delays between them.
